The morning is a powerful time to make your day the best it can be.

Okay, see if this has ever happened to you. You wake up in the morning, and one of two things happens. You’re either so tired still and you got to hit the snooze button again, and again and again, or you immediately get out of bed and you start getting into your routine, whatever that routine is. You got to check Facebook, you got to make coffee, you got to do all these things and a lot of them are for other people, and I get it. You’re busy, and you have responsibilities, but check this out.
You have this amazing opportunity every morning. You’re literally starting fresh. I don’t mean just starting a fresh day. Every day is a blank canvas. When you go to sleep at night, you stop all the momentum of your thinking, all the momentum of your beliefs, your thoughts, your emotions. All of that stops every time you go to sleep, so when you wake up in the morning, you’re literally starting fresh.
The problem is that most of us pick up where we left off the day before, and this is why a lot of us don’t experience very much change in our lives. So the morning time really is special. It’s really a powerful chance for you to shift your trajectory in a really simple way, and there’s a ritual that I’ve found that makes a huge difference, and here’s the way it works.
Really simple. When you wake up in the morning, you know how you wake up, and then you get up? Well, stretch that time a little bit. So when you wake up, and you realize you’re awake, just give yourself a few seconds. You’ll start to notice how you’re feeling, and when you feel that urge to get up and start doing stuff, chill out.
Just for a few seconds. Notice how you’re feeling, allow yourself to imagine your day the way that you’d like for it to go. Maybe you can begin to shift your attention towards those things that you appreciate, maybe to some people that you’re looking forward to spending time with, maybe just to being in your own imagination, but when you stretch that time between waking up and getting up, this is your creation zone.
There’s power there. Give it a shot and test it for yourself. Tomorrow morning, when you wake up, stretch that time. You wake up, you’re laying there, notice how you feel. What are you looking forward to? Notice how your body feels. And instead of hooking back in to the same actions, begin to feel for some new ideas, some new thoughts, some new feelings.
You do this for a couple of days, you will see a dramatic improvement, not just in the morning, but as your day continues on. You do this for a few days in a row, I think you’re going to really like what ends up happening in your life.
