There’s this myth around relationships. You’ve probably noticed it. And the idea is that there’s the one. The one person that when you find that one person, they will complete you. And when you have this one perfect person in your life, this person will be your reason for being.
This person will be your everything. This person will be before anyone else. When you find the one, everything in life gets better. In fact, when you find the one, society tells us, you have arrived. And the search is over.
The journey is concluded. And there’s a lot of pressure that gets put on a lot of people. Societal pressure, maybe spiritual pressure, religious pressure, family pressure. When are you going to get married, honey? Isn’t it about time you had kids? And there’s all of this pressure.
But here’s the myth. That when you find this one person, everything’s just going to be perfect. This causes a lot of pain, chasing someone else to then have this fulfillment. Chasing another person, and in fact, putting pressure on this other person so that then you can have the life that you really want.
How does that make any sense? When the reality is, you are the one. You complete yourself. To be happy in your own life, to be enjoying your own journey. You are the one. But here’s where it gets really good. If you are the one and you’re enjoying your life and you’re growing and you feel a sense of joy and fulfillment because that’s who you are.
If that’s your path, how can you help but do anything except to track that into your life? You’re going to have other people in your life including people that are already in your life, maybe even somebody you’re already in a relationship with. Your fulfillment, your joy, your enthusiasm for life becomes contagious.
And when two people who have chosen this sort of life for themselves as individuals, when two people come together in a relationship and share that common enthusiasm for this amazing adventure that we call life, that’s when the magic happens. That’s when you are with someone who is a home for your heart. This is where love multiplies. And that is a journey worth taking.
