How many of the “limits” placed on your growth, your skills, your happiness are real or simply built up by your own beliefs?

We all experience boundaries in life, right? And I’m not talking about the healthy boundaries of your personal preferences, I’m not talking about the things that you decide or right for you, those are something completely different.
I’m talking about the boundaries that we perceive outside of us. The fences, the walls, the limits. And there’s this deep, seeded human need to transcend those boundaries, to expand beyond what we’ve experienced as the known. We want to go beyond that and transcend those limits and experience what’s on the other side. But there’s a little bit of a trap there.
We’ve all heard the saying that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. I think the reality is that the grass is greener where you water it. The grass is greener where you give your attention, where you focus your energies.
So instead of chasing what’s on the other side, we can experience a deeper sense of fulfillment, more meaning, more connection by giving energy to where we are. But then what about those limits? What about those false walls, all those things that we’ve been taught and told that we shouldn’t do? How much of that is real and how much of that is inherited? How much of what you believe is an actual limit versus what you just accepted?
Nobody can know that except for you. But all of these artificial obstacles, they give way very quickly when you make the choice, when you make the decision that you’re going to explore, you’re going to expand, you’re going to allow that natural curiosity that’s inside of you to become a normal part of your life. So that instead of having adventure as a once-in-a-while special occasion, adventure becomes woven into the DNA of your day. So that you wake up every day literally fresh off the heels of yesterday’s adventure and then one day after another, your courage expands, your imagination expands. And pretty soon, the fences stop existing.
The boundaries disappear, they dissolve, they become laughable, they become someone else’s issues, some else’s problem. And when people encounter you and say, you can’t do that. When you’re operating from a place of alignment, when you’re operating from a place of absolute self-authorization, when you’re moving forward and you are doing the things that you feel like doing for no other reason than that you authorize yourself, other people’s opinions stop mattering as much, other people’s opinions, you start to recognize them as their limits, their boundaries, their fences.
And sure, they might be sharing that with you out of a genuine care for your well-being, they may not want to see you get hurt. Maybe those people don’t want to see you get disappointed. But at the end of the day, it’s your life. At the end of the day, you’re the only one that can decide if those fences are real. You’re the only one that can decide if those boundaries are worth backing away from or if they simply represent some new level in this beautiful game of life.
Nobody can make that choice except you and you do not require anyone’s permission in order to authorize your own explorations.
