You don’t need permission to make your life an Adventure. Just go and do it.

You know at what point did we start delegating our sense of magic and mystery. When did we begin to outsource our sense of adventure and having other people take the actions and perform the tasks and the movements and score the goals and read the lines on the movies for us to enjoy. At what point did we start saying that, you know, it’s just okay for other people to just live their life so that we could just sit back and watch it, and live vicariously through the achievements of those people who get put on the screen in front of us. But adventure isn’t adventure isn’t something you delegate. And adventure doesn’t have to be this grand, Oscar worthy, Heisman Trophy worthy, Emmy award winning. All that stuffs manufactured anyway.
Adventure is your life, adventure is what happens in between having the idea of what you want to do and then reflecting back upon the thing that you did. That’s adventure. You have the intuition, you have the inspiration, you have the impulse to do it, and then you just go and do it. And there’s no getting ready to do it, there’s just doing, there’s just going. And you say, yeah, but I don’t know, what if I get it wrong? What if you get it wrong? So what if you get it wrong? Who cares if you get it wrong? You’re not here to get things right. You’re not here to get things perfect, whatever that’s supposed to mean. There is no such thing as perfect. Perfect, perfection, that’s a human word that describes something which actually exists nowhere in this perfect universe or ours. Nowhere in this universe is there anything that’s achieved a state of perfection ’cause you know what perfection means? Perfection means endedness, perfection means completed. Perfection means can’t get any better. Perfection means done. And there’s nothing in this brilliant world of ours that’s ever done.
Nothing is ever finished. Everything in this universe, every subatomic particle is on its way from some place to somewhere else. Everything’s in motion, including you. We’re all in motion all of the time and since you’re always in motion you can never arrive, you can never finish, there’s no final ending place, there’s no such thing as perfection, it’s just always changing all the time.
So if you’re waiting to take the step that you know you could take, if you’re waiting until you know it’s going to work out perfectly, man that sounds like a recipe for a boring ass life. Why wait for it to be perfect? This is not a perfect life, but it’s a beautiful one. And maybe by forgetting how much we care about what other people think about our performance, instead of worrying or wondering what are they going to say, man they’re too busy worrying about themselves to think about you. And I don’t mean that in a cold, lonely sort of way. But you’re not here for anybody else, you’re not here to fulfill someone else’s idea of what they think you should be, you’re here for you. You’re here to live your life on your terms, on your sense of what’s right for you right now. That’s why you’re here. That doesn’t mean you shut other people out, it means you actually include people.
Everybody wants to be around someone that’s living a self-authorized life, free from irrational fears and the curse of perfection. There is no perfection, there’s only now and next, now and next, now and next, and the better you get at your now, the better your next is going to be. Adventure is what happens in between the idea and the reflection. And as you’re looking back on this day, as you’re looking back on this week, as you’re looking back a month from now, as you’re looking back a year from now, what kind of moments do you want to look back on? Do you want to look back on a bunch of moments where you’re sittin’ eatin’ popcorn watching other people play? And if so that’s totally cool. But I have a feeling, you’re not just here as a spectator, you’re not just here as someone watching other people, you’re a creator. And you have it in you to create, you have it in you to embrace a little bit more adventure. And you don’t need permission, you don’t need anybody else to tell you now is the time.
You don’t need anyone else to grant you the authority to begin to lean your life in the direction that you know you want it to go. I can tell you from personal experience it’s a lot more fun, and it’s a lot more profitable, living life as a creator. So take that ride and see what happens. Judge yourself a little bit less, love yourself a little bit more. And watch as life begins to reflect that adventure.
